the difference
SMOKEX glass: zero breakage until 2700mm drop height, in which 2/10 would fail at the bend stress-point. this could be repaired using an adhesive, and continue to function.
major retail: at 700mm (desk height), in which 7/10 would fail with a shattered unit, rendering the unit unusable. at 900 & 1200 (bench and table height) 10/10 would fail and break/shatter.
other retail: remained solid until 500mm (bedside height), in which 4/10 would fail, shattering and rendering the unit unusable.
smokex glass is a type of glass with the main glass-forming constituents' silica and boron oxide.
smokex glass has a very low coefficient of thermal expansion, meaning it doesn't rapidly expand or contract when exposed to heat.
why does this matter?
our glass won't crack when exposed to flame, they can handle repeated heating and cooling cycles and the material used reduce the risk of thermal shock (hot bowl > cool air or surface).
compared to typical soda-lime glass, smokex glass is tougher under impact, less prone to micro-fractures and is resistant to stress-points.
While no glass is unbreakable, our glass survives drops and knocks that would typically shatter the competition.
